 Unit 1 The Nature of Science

  1. Science Text Book Pages 4-10
  2. Watch this video: What do you think a scientist does? Now watch this one and make notes.
  3. Read Page 6. What is Science? Then watch this video that explains more.
  4. Write what you think a scientist does?
  5. Write in your notebook what you do when you make an observation. Page 6
  6. Read Page 7. Write in your notebook the way you understand an inference.
  7. What is a scientific investigation?
  8. Read page 8 and write the definition for a controlled experiment in your notebook.
  9. Read Pages 11-14
  10. What is variable. Write the answer in your notebook
  11. Dependent vs and Independent variable. Look at the experiment in Figure 4 and indicate why it is important to have a control group in an experiment.

  31. Project: Choose a distance between two chairs or the teacher’s desk to a door in your class room and measure the distance using your foot. Have a friend with a larger or smaller foot than yours to measure the same distance. Are the measurements consistent and precise? Why or why not? Write the answer in your notebook.
